Sankalpam ,the ancient method of recording a daily event.

Sankalpam and its meaning Below is the Hindu Cosmic cycle. 1 Mahayuga = Sum of 4 Yugas (Krita, Treta,  Dwapara and Kali) = 4,320,000 years.  1000 such mahayugas comprise a day-time of Brahma also known as a Kalpa. The kalpa is ruled by 14 manus in succession. The reigning period of a manu is one manvantara which is 71.42 mahayugas.  There is an equivalent night-time of 4,320,000,000 years. The day-night of Brahma together constitutes one Brahma day (8.64 billion years). 360 Brahma days constitute a Brahma year while 360 years represent the lifetime of Brahma which is the life of the cosmos. Doing this simple maths gives the age of the cosmos to be 311 trillion years. Carl Sagan, the noted scientist says in relation to this, ""The Hindu religion is the only one of the world's great faiths dedicated to the idea that the Cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite, number of deaths and rebirths. It is the only religion in which the time sc

ThirThiruvidavendhai or Thiruvidanthai Divya Desam is dedicated to Sri Bhu Varaha Perumal, who stands facing the East direction. He is the presiding deity and is the divine manifestation of Lord Vishnu in the form of Varaha (Boar). He is the Prakthyaksham for Markandeyar. The temple also houses separate sannadhis for Sri Andal, Sri Aranganathan, and Sri Aranganayaki. The consort of Sri Bhu Varaha Perumal is Sri Komalavalli Nachiyar. The processional deity (Utsavar) of the temple is Sri Nithya Kalyana Perumal, the one who perpetually blesses with auspicious marriages. According to the sthalapuranam (temple legend), along the banks of the Saraswathi River, on Sambu Island, lived a sage named "Kuni" with his disciples. A young woman assisted him and catered to his needs. When she came of age, she began her penance (tapas) but was told by Sage Narada that only married women's penance is accepted, and they attain Moksham (salvation) through such tapas. So, she sought a suitab

In Srirangam, the "Poochati Festival," also known as "Kodai Thirunaal," is a sight to behold, with a delightful aroma filling the air. As the name suggests, this festival revolves around the decoration of the Lord with various beautiful and rare flowers. The first five days of the festival are known as "Veli Kodai," which signifies the onset of summer. The festivities commence around 6:00 in the evening from the moolashtanam. Lord Ranganatha is taken through various sanctums, including "Naalaam Thiru Suthu," "Mela Pattabhiraman Sannidhi," and "Kodantha Ramar Sannidhi," before reaching Chandra Pushkarani and Keeza Pattabhiraman Ramar Sannadhi at the Naalu Kaal Mandapam. As the Lord proceeds, he walks with a majestic gait, seemingly eager to escape the scorching summer heat and bathe in the cool waters of the pushkarani. The sight is breathtakingly beautiful, with the Lord's entire body adorned in red saffron (Kunguma poo) a

One evening, after completing their daily routine of feeding the poor at dusk, Kuresan (Koorathazhwar) and his wife, AndAlammA, retired for the day. As they clanged the big brass doorway to their home shut, the sound echoed through the quiet night and reached Kanchi, where Lord Varadaraja and Perundevi Thayar resided. They were slightly startled by the loud noise and inquired about its cause. The Goddess asked the Lord, "Pray tell, wherefrom does this sound of the night arise, O Sire?" Devadirajan replied, "It is the doorway of our dear Kuresan's home being shut for the day after the daily alms-giving." Delighted to hear about Kuresan's piety and charity, the Lord and Perundevi Piratti commanded the Lord's dearest, Kanchipurna or Tirukacchi-nambi, who was also one of Ramanujacharya's mentors, that Kuresan be brought to their presence. Kanchipurna hurried to Kuram, Kuresan's place, to summon him to Kanchi. When Kuresan learned the purpose of Kanch

Sarangapani as a son

Lord performs pitru tarpana and srāddha for his devotee, out of Love, on the day of Deepavali! A devotee named Lakshmi Narayanaswami served Lord Sarangabani (Thirukudhantai, Kumbakonam) throughout his life, considering Supreme Lord to be his very own son. He is the one who built the Rajagopuram (High Temple Tower) of the Kumbakonam Sarangabani Temple. But he was childless. He reached the Lotus feet of Lord on a Deepavali day. Any one having no heir to perform the last rites would have a hard journey before reaching Yama, the King of Justice, in the afterlife, according to scriptures. Lord cannot ignore His devotee, thus He performed the last rites for His devotee. Next day, when the temple was opened, Lord appeared with a wet dhoti and His sacred thread, Yagnopavitha, changed to the right shoulder, darba in hands in libation rite-performing manner. The Supreme Lord, who is fruit of these rituals and beyond all ritualistic practices, comes down to personally to serve for the

Trivikrama. Thaadala

When amrutham was obtained as a result of the Lord's assistance as Kurma Moorthy, Indra and the Devas got the upper hand in their battle with the asuras, and the kings of the asura clan, like Mahabali, were killed. The guru of asuras, Sukracharya, with his power of penance, brought Mahabali and his retinue back to life through the performance of a Mahayajna known as Visvajith. Mahabali and his associates were restored to life and went after Indra and the Devas, driving Indra from his kingdom. Indra's mother, Aditi Devi, appealed to her husband, Kasyapa Prajapati, and asked him for guidance on redressing the sufferings of their son, Indra. Kasyapa Prajapati advised his wife that the performance of the Payovratha homam, consisting of the offering of rice cooked in milk, would please Sriman Narayana and lead to the birth of a son who would help Indra regain his kingdom. Aditi Devi performed the recommended homam with austerity and had the good fortune of having Sriman Narayana Him
