Vaikunda Ekadasi Pagal Pattu 9th day Utsavam SriRangam, Muthukuri Thirunaal.

Vaikunda Ekadasi Pagal Pattu is a significant event celebrated on the 9th day of the Utsavam in SriRangam, known as Muthukuri Thirunaal. On this auspicious day, Namperumal, the presiding deity of SriRangam, comes out of His moolastaanam (sanctum sanctorum) to the Arjuna Mandapa, adorned in a majestic array of pearls. The reason behind this attire is not explicitly mentioned, but the use of pearls may signify the Lord's opulence and divine beauty.

During the Araiyar Sevai, the temple singers (Araiyars) recite, explain, and re-enact Thirumangai Azwar's Pasuram called Thirunedutaandakam in the eloquent Muthamizh (combination of prose, music, and drama). Thirunedutaandakam is a poem portraying the Nayakan-Nayaki Bhavam (Hero-Heroine relationship) between Perumal (Lord) and Thirumangai Azwar. In this Pasuram, the heroine (Thirumangai Azwar) and her mother have just returned from Srirangam, and the young girl appears pale, as if enchanted by love.

The concerned mother seeks the help of a Kattuvachi, a tribal woman known for reading omens with pearls (Muttukuri). The Pasuram belongs to the agapporulpadal category in Tamil literature, with the first few lines expressing the heroine's feelings, followed by the words of the mother and then the Kattuvachi.

The mother laments to the Kattuvachi that her daughter is lovesick after encountering someone in Srirangam. The young girl appears unwell, not eating properly, not wearing her favorite pattu (silk) dress, and not playing with her toys as she usually does. The Kattuvachi uses her pearls to read the omen and predicts that Sri Ranganathan, the Lord with the color of the ocean, has captured the young girl's heart with His divine love. The only remedy for her lovesickness is to seek solace in Ranganathan.

On this 9th day of the Utsavam, the Araiyars re-enact this emotional Pasuram by portraying the roles of the mother, lovesick heroine, and the tribal lady. The Muttukuri ritual will be enacted, where the Kattuvachi uses pearls to discern the young girl's condition.
